THE EFFECT OF COUPLES EDUCATION ON THE INVOLVEMENT OF MALE WORKERS OF IRANIAN TELECOMUNICATION MANUFACTORIES IN A SELECTION OF FAMILY PLANNING PROGRAMS

English Abstract

Introduction: Men’s opinions are generally effective on women’s lives and their reproductive health in particular. Achievement of family planning program objectives and obtaining successful results require cooperation and active participation of both men and women in these programs. Methods: This research was designed as a quasi- experimental pre- Post test study. Subjects of this study, were 80 couples from shiraz telecommunication manufacturies, all of whom were selected through convenient sampling method. The subjects were allocated randomly into two experimental and control groups. Data was gathered by a questionnaire.Results: Analysis of data revealed that the men’s post test knowledge scores of the experimental group is significantly higher than pre test (P<0.001). This difference was not found in control group (P = 0.16). A significant change in the participation scores of the male subject was found in experimentalgroup(P<0.001) but not in control group (P = 0.24). There was found a significant and positive correlation between knowledge and participation scores of the subjects at the first stage of the research (r = 0.27 P = 0.01).Conclusion: Overall the results of this research showed that participation in family planning training program is effective in increasing the knowledge of the participants, resulting in their participation in family planning programs.
