Aplasia Cutis Congenita (ACC): A Case Report

Introduction: Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital disease with absence of portion of skin in localized or widespread area. Anywhere of the body can be affected, but most often can occur on the scalp. Case presentation: A term female baby was born, mother did not have any significant medical history. Neonate presented skin lesion on the head, neck and extremities. The affected area had well-demarcated margin and covered with thin, transparent membrane which it was possible to see the underlying structure, suggestive of aplasia cutis congenita. Other organs such as heart, gastrointestinal system and skeleton were safe. Conservative treatment with daily washing, dressings containing hydrogel and emollient was done. Conclusion: ACC is a rare condition with unclear cause. Compromised blood flow to the skin, trauma or exposure with teratogens (i.e. valproic acid, methimazole, marijuana, cocaine) during pregnancy may lead to this condition.
