NEWBORN WITH HUGE CYSTIC HYGROMA: A CASE REPORT

Introduction: Cystic hygroma or cystic lymphatic malformation is a benign congenital malformation of the lymphatic system and in most cases appears in the neck and face. Case Presentation: The patient was a term neonate that presented with complains of huge masses in the left side of the body. The masses were mobile, cystic, fluctuant, non pulsatile and translucent . On ultrasonography appeared as an irregular multiloculated cystic mass with septa and solid components. Plain radiography showed large soft tissue opacity without air way obstruction . Total surgical excision was performed with good result. Conclusion: Cystic hygroma is a benign lymphatic malformation due to maldevelopment of communication between the lymphatic and venous system. Complications of cystic hygroma depend on the anatomic location and impingement on other critical structures such as airway and nerves. Most preferred option for treatment is surgical excision.
