English Abstract

Abstract Background & Objectives: Physical activity has many health benefits. It also reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression and an improved sense of well-being. Self-esteem is important for a successful and satisfying life and is a central aspect of psychological well-being. This study was conducted with the aim of determining effects of physical activity on the self-esteem of female students of Ardabil University in 2009. Methods: This was a pre-post test study done on 38 students of Ardabil Azad University. The participants were filled the Rosenberg’s self-esteem questionnaire , before and after of one month designed exercise. The data were analyzed by a t-test using the SPSS soft ware. Results: The mean age of participants in the study was 21.5 ± 0.42 years. BMI of participants was 22.1±2.4. The mean score of self-esteem before exercise program was 26.62±3.85 This reached to 30.45±3.07 after exercise programs, and this change was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: This research indicates that exercise is effective in increasing self-esteem of female students.
