Evaluation Prevalence Rate of Genital Mycoplasmas in Cases of Abortion in Selected Maternity Hospital in Tehran

English Abstract

Background & Objectives: Mycoplasmas are the smallest free–living organisms which can grow on artificial media. The studies about genital Mycoplasma have been conducted so far, indicating most probably the relation of these bacteria with the genital infections such as abortion and infertility.the aims of study was to Evaluation prevalence rate of genital Mycoplasmas in cases of abortion in selected maternity hospital in Tehran. Methods: In this study,100 collected samples of patients with abortionwere examined for genital Mycoplasmas infections. The specimens were cultured in PPLO broth with supplements by filtration with 0.045 micron filters, for genital Mycoplasmas and incubated at 37oC under microaerophilic conditions for 5-8 days. The isolates were identified by biochemical test. Results: The culture results showed that genital Mycoplasmas isolated from the patients with history of abortion were more than the other patients (71.4%). Two of genital Mycoplasma isolates were identified (4.26%). Conclusion: The results of study showed that although genital Mycoplasma are known as normal flora and high frequency of genital Mycoplasma isolates infected individuals. This fact necessitates the early diagnosis and treatment of these opportunists organisms.
