Effects of low-level laser Diode (630 nm) on treatment of oral erosive Lichen Planus

English Abstract

Introduction Lichen planus of the skin and mucosal disease has not clear etiology and treatment. Laser therapy, especially in cases of treatment-resistant therapy, is common. Material and method The cases of the study were 15 women with the oral erosive lichen planus in the ‎ different area. Conventional treatment was cancelled two weeks before starting the study. We select the low-level laser Diode (630 nm) 25j/cm, 100mv 7second for three days during one week. The patients were followed up in two weeks, one month, three months and six months. We used Tongprosom scale to evaluate the situations of lichen planus. Discussion The oral erosive lichen planus in both sides of cheeks at ‏‎6 patients and 3 patients in lower and upper lips and palate were reduced according to the Tongprosom scale and this situation of treatment stayed for three months. In 6 months follow up we observed no change in the 4 patients; 3 patients did not return and small change in 2 patients. The other 6 patients with oral erosive lichen planus in anterior gingiva (desquamative gingivitis) were reduced according to the Tongprosom scale‏ ‏and this situation of ‎treatment stayed for two weeks. In one month and 3 months follow up the illness returned to previous situation and its reasons may be did not relate to the lichen planus ‎or low-level laser‎ therapy needs more changes in dose or the methods of treatments. Conclusion The low-level laser‎ therapy in non-keratinized mucosa has better results than keratinized mucosa and the treatment is stable too.
