Review of Impacts of Gamma Irradiation on Blood Components
English Abstract
Transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease (TA-GVHD) is a rare, but usually fatal, complication of transfusion. (TA-GVHD) can be prevented by treating cellular blood products with gamma irradiation. In this review study, we explain procedural aspects and irradiation effects on cellular blood products, and current recommendations for irradiation of blood components.
