Review of management of Gynaecological Cancer using acupuncture
English Abstract
Gynaecological cancers are the fourth most common form of cancer among women. Despite developments in surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy and novel immunological and biologically targeted therapies, there are limitations to their benefits in cancer treatment, especially where the disease is advanced. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy often produce side effects. Relief of cancer-related symptoms is essential in the supportive and palliative care of cancer patients. Complementary therapies such as acupuncture and herbal medicine can be helpful. Many of these therapies are natural, holistic, less intensive and cost effective. They have become more popular over the last decade. Acupuncture has been recommended by several medical professional bodies for the treatment of cancer and cancer treatment related symptoms. In this approach we explain the effectiveness of acupuncture in management gynaecological cancer.
