THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF REFERRED WOMEN FOR MOMMOGRAPHY IN ARDEBIL FATEMI HOSPITAL, 2005

Objective: One of the diagnose method for primary recognizing and even the recognizing of the secret breast cancers before getting the 5 mm size, is mammography. We want to define regular plans by surveying the demographic women who are referred to the mammography and the possibility of its cancer spreading based an ages. Materials & methods: In this descriptive – analytic research all women who are referred to mammography department to the Fatemi’s Hospital,Ardebil, Iran, during the year of 2005 were studied. We completed information of women and mammography reports on the questionnaire. Data analyzed by SPSS software. Results: 20 women from 100 women referred to mammography department had the signs of breast malignancy that 12 ones had reported breast cancer. 50% of cancers aged 35-44 years old, 17% under 35 years old and 33% more than 50 years old. Marriage age and age of the first pregnancy in who had cancer in 10/12 cases were less 20 years, in 2/12 cases were between 20-30 years. 3/12 cases had family history of cancer. Conclusion: Prevalence of breast cancer in this study observed in lower levels of age. The results of this study necessitate an early and careful mammography and also screening of women to avoid progression of cancer.
