Title

Application of reverse osmosis technology for arsenic removal from drinking water

English Abstract

The objective of this research is reduction of arsenic concentration in drinking water by using reverse osmosis (RO) technology for resulting to the standards. Arsenic removal efficiency examined by using RO membrane with spiralwound module (model: 2521 TE, made in CSM Co. Korea) installed in to by using a pilot plant setup (Figs. 1–5). At the first step, water samples provided with adding of sodium arsenate in the laboratory, and system performance tested for performance of reverse osmosis for removal of arsenic in the sample. In addition, the effect of arsenic concentration, pressure, pH, and temperature of the entry water on membrane performance examined (Figs. 1–3). In any cases, flux measured, and after 30 min samples obtained, and tested with silver diethyl-dithio-carbamate(AgDDTC) method. The results showed that optimal conditions for system performance are pressure 190–210 psi, concentration 0.2–0.5 mg/L, temperature 25–30° C and pH = 6–8. Arsenic removal efficiency in optimal conditions of system performance measured up to 99%.
