The Prevalence of Fall-Induced in Elderly Persons and Coincidental Fractures and Spinal Cord Injuries

English Abstract

Background: Although osteoporosis falls, and fractures among older adults are said to be a continuously increasing public health problem, reliable epidemiological information on their secular trends is very limited. Objective: The main goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of fall-induced and coincidental fractures and orthopedic problems in aging population. Methods: All individuals aged 60 years or older who were admitted to Fatemi Hospital (2004-2005) for primary treatment of an acute fall-induced, coincidental fractures and spinal cord injury were selected for this study. Data were collected from their medical records and were include: Age, sex, education, marriage status, reason of referring to hospital, living with others, etc… Data collected were analyzed by SPSS software, using descriptive and analytic statistics. Results: The total number of fall-induced, fracture-associated, spinal cord injuries of older adults increased considerably: during the winter period, in elders that live alone, in women, in low educated, some who retire from work and complication were wore in elder that lives in home of elders. Conclusions: In individuals aged 60 years or older, the number of fall-induced, coincidental fractures and spinal cord injuries shows a rise with winter and living without support therefore we should notice to this because we are getting age too
