Arbitrary antibiotic use in people over 40 years of age in Ardabil city

English Abstract

Introduction: Antibiotics are the most common used drugs in society. Antibiotic resistance is one the important problem in society that its arbitrary use cause to non-effective of these drugs in future. The aim of this study was to investigate the arbitrary antibiotic use rate in people over 40 years of age in Ardabil city. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study that has been done on 200 people over 40 years age which selected randomly from Ardabil city people. Data collected by a questionnaire and collected data analyzed by statistical methods in SPSS.19. Results: Of all people, 119 (59.5%) were male and rest of them were female. Of them 12% were illiterate. 73% of people had arbitrary antibiotic use in their life. Conclusion: results showed that the antibiotic use rate in people over 40 years of age in Ardabil city was more compare to world and our country Iran. So, doing more activities in the prediction of arbitrary antibiotic use is necessary and educational training must be done about the disadvantage of arbitrary antibiotic use and its side-effects.
