COVID-19 and Hydatidosis Infections: Is There Any Relationship?
خلاصه انگلیسی
Background and Aim: In order to evaluate the occurrence of Covid-19 disease in patients with hydatid cyst, this study was performed from April to September 2020 in Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil (Corona center of the province). Methods: For this purpose, 38 patients with a history of surgery and treatment of hydatid cysts were evaluated for the Covid-19 infection test. Before sampling, the code of ethics was obtained from the National Ethics Committee of the university. Among these patients, 8 patients were in close contact with a patient with Covid-19 infection (close relatives). On the other hand, the anti-hydatid antibody was performed in 150 patients with Covid-19 infection. ELISA test was used to evaluate hydatid cyst antibody and PCR test was used to evaluate Covid-19 infection. Results: The results showed that all patients with hydatid cyst or treated with anti-hydatid cyst drugs were negative for the Covid-19 PCR test. In addition, the serum of all patients with Covid-19 infection was negative for anti-hydatid antibodies. While 3-10% of the population of Ardabil province were positive for anti-hydatid antibodies. Conclusion: There are two possibilities for these results: either there is an antagonistic relationship between hydatid cyst antigens and Coronavirus proteins or the use of albendazole has led to protection against Covid-19.
