English Abstract
Oxydemeton-methyl (Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number 301-12-2) is an organophosphate pesticide used in agriculture. Its high mobility can cause it to spread even in nontarget areas. It can be absorbed through all routes of exposure and is mostly excreted in urine. Cholinesterase inhibition is the main mechanism of toxicity and the symptoms of intoxication are the same as cholinergic overstimulation. Treatment is based on the main protocol of organophosphate poisoning. It has been reported to be genotoxic and teratogenic and cause some disruption in the neurobehavioral and endocrine systems.
