The concept of Self-care for empowering chronic patients: A Qualitative Content Analysis

Background: Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Self- Care, is a fundamental concern for prevention, management, Supporting and empowering of chronically ill patients and nursing. The purpose of this study to explore of aspects of chronically-ill Peoples’ self-car. Method: Qualitative methods are ideal for collecting detailed data and creating deep understanding about the phenomena and concepts of interest. A conventional content analysis method was conducted from May 2015 to March 2016 in two university hospitals. The sample was 22 participants, including chronically ill patients, family caregivers, and nurses. Data were collected through personal semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was performed concurrently with data collection through conventional qualitative content analysis. Results: Most participants were female (0.58%), with a mean age of 49.50 years. The final analysis yielded a total of 100 units of analysis dispersed in 3 subcategories (care of treatment process, care of body, care of psyche). Conclusions: the findings of this study represent the dimensions of chronically-ill individuals’Self-care that can be used to develop and implement programs for empowering chronic ill patients.
